Hub Of The North

Libby, Honey and I decided to take a weekend trip to Hay River for the August long weekend, and I almost fainted at the beauty of it. Hay River, nicknamed the "hub of the North" is a town in the North West Territories that sits at the bottom of the Great Slave Lake. The Great Slave Lake is the 10th largest lake in the world which gives it more of an ocean feel than a lake.

Because we chose to go on the long weekend the camp ground was fully booked for the first night we planned to stay so we went exploring to see what kind of bush we could sleep in. During our renegade we stumbled across a lake side paradise loved by the locals and decided to call it home for the evening. We camped and build our fire right in the sand 10 meters away from the water.

Honey adored this spot as she was free to roam in the trees and splash in the shallow water to her hearts content. She also made a dog friend who demonstrated the art of playing fetch.

Our second night was at a nice campsite, but nothing could compare to our first location. Overall Hay River was amazing, and our only regret is not having a chance to buy fresh fish from the market. So I guess we will have just have to back another time.
